“We are horrified by the anti-Semitic and racist acts aimed at Itay Shechter,” said the Israeli embassy in a statement. “We have every confidence in the German authorities and are confident that the perpetrators of these acts will be brought before the courts as quickly as possible.”
German soccer federation president Wolfgang Niersbach said such abuse must be “nipped in the bud” and “we must act decisively.”
Kaiserslautern was coming off a 4-0 loss to Mainz on Saturday and is currently in second to last place in Germany‘s top soccer division, the Bundesliga. Kaiserslautern reported the incident to the police who are still evaluating the evidence.
