Massachusetts witness describes silent triangle UFO encounter

A Massachusetts witness traveling along River Road near the Andover-Tewksbury line about 5 p.m. on November 29, 2012, reported a silent boomerang or triangle-shaped object moving slowly at 700 feet in the air and just 100 feet away, according to testimony from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.

While the sun had just set, the witness said the sky still had an orange glow to it while approaching a monastery.

“I saw five bright lights on the horizon running parallel off the right side of the road in front of me,” the witness stated. “My first reaction was, ‘That is odd, five bright lights close together descending ever so slightly from left to right, what aircraft is this?’”

Moving along at 35 mph, the witness anticipated moving into a wooded area, and slowed the vehicle down.

“I slowed my speed down to about 20 mph as the craft got closer. As this happened two bright lights went away, and a red light appeared under the middle light. It was coming directly parallel off to my right side but so close I couldn’t look out my passenger side window. I had to lean forward against my wheel to watch the craft fly to the right and above me.”

The craft was rather close to the vehicle.

“It was so close, the altitude was no more than 700 feet, and the craft was no more than 100 yards away it appeared.”

The witness had gotten close enough to the craft to see more detail.

“The leftover glow from the sun lit up the underside of the craft just enough for me to see the surface under the front light. The surface of the craft was silvery, metallic looking. The three bright lights were in a triangle pattern underneath the craft. The red light was centrally located underneath this craft. The shape of this craft was either a boomerang or a triangle. I say this because when the light lit it up for a second and I could see the surface. I saw the surface go from the center of the light out to the two outer lights, but saw darkness in between the two outer lights. This was the closest I got to this craft.”

The object was perfectly silent.

“I put my windows down, shut the music off, and listened very closely past the road noise. This thing did not make a whisper. I couldn’t hear the sound of a propeller or of a jet engine. In the glow of the sun, I did not witness anything that could have been considered an engine at all. The object appeared to just glide in the sky with a slow but steady pace. With this type of pace and altitude, a jet would have not been able to maintain lift, and with the speed and altitude a propeller driven aircraft would have been very easy to identify.”

As the craft hit the witnesses‘ blind spot above the car, the witness took about 10 seconds to turn the vehicle around in an attempt to continue watching the object.

“When I picked it back up again, I was behind the craft. At this point I could make out the bright lights. I drove back north hoping to park in a wide open field off to my left and watch this craft. It had changed direction while I turned around and was moving away. The directional change appeared to happen without any banking at all from the craft. It was close to a 90 degree directional change. I was watching it move away but the lights had all culminated to appear as one, with the red light visible underneath.”

The witness parked at a school entrance and continued to watch.

“At this time I noticed two other airplanes in the area off in the horizon. They were not anywhere close to the craft I was watching. These other two planes, I could make out the red/green wing light tips instantly and they were moving much quicker along the horizon.”

The sighting ended when the craft moved out of sight.

“The sighting ended when the light of the craft in the distance seemed to stop becoming smaller, and got brighter and bigger, then moved to the right heading eastward off in the distance. At this point, it was miles away from me. Once it went into the trees, I continued on my way home. The total sighting time for me lasted from approximately 5:05 to 5:11 EST.”

Reviewing the entire sighting, the witness could not identify what was seen.

“With my experience with aircraft, and my knowledge of aircraft and aviation, I cannot identify what this was. I can’t even categorize this as jet propelled or prop propelled because I didn’t hear or see either one of these. The movement of this aircraft was very slow, but graceful like. It covered a lot of ground within six minutes. The lights on the aircraft were unusually brighter than aircraft I typically see at night. I have also never seen an aircraft that had lights in a perfect triangular pattern with a red light just as bright directly in the center. I would love to know what this craft was.”

November 29, 2012, 5:05 p.m., Andover-Tewksbury line, MS – Driving home down River Rd. Spotted UFO 5 Bright Lights coming towards me. When it passed, I turned and followed. Case 44234.

Let me first say that I love aviation, and have always followed the latest tech, and the old tech since I was a child. I am pretty good at spotting aircraft in the sky and deducing what it could be. What I saw in the sky November 29th, and 5:05 PM driving my usual way home from work I can not explain what I saw in the sky.

I left work at 5:00pm, I headed down River Rd. The sun had set, but the horizon still had an orange/reddish glow at this time of day. Anyhow, as I approached the top of a hill along River Rd, and drove pass the monastery of St Claire on my right, I saw 5 Bright Lights on the horizon running parallel off the right side of the road in front of me. My first reaction was, “That is odd, 5 bright lights close together descending ever so slightly from left to right, what aircraft is this?” I typically see aircraft flying in this same area, but usually they are easy to identify with their red/green wing light tips. When I dont know what an object is, if I see those tip lights on the wings I know its something registered.
Im traveling approximately 35 mpg at the time of the sighting, and I know the road soon dips and goes beneath a tree cover. I did not want that to happen until I identified the craft. I slowed my speed down to about 20mph as the craft got closer. As this happened 2 Bright Lights went away, and a Red Light appeared under the middle light. It was coming directly parallel off to my right side but so close I couldnt look out my passenger side window. I had to lean forward against my wheel to watch the craft fly to the right and above me. It was so close, the altitude was no more then 700 ft, and the craft was no more then 100 yards away it appeared. At this time, Im taking as many observations of this craft. The leftover glow from the sun lit up the underside of the craft just enough for me to see the surface under the front light. The surface of the craft was silvery metallic looking. The 3 bright lights were in a triangle pattern underneath the craft. The Red light was centrally located underneath this craft. The shape of this craft was either a boomerang or a Triangle. I say this because when the light lit it up for a second and I could see the surface I saw the surface go from the center of the light out to the 2 outer lights, but saw darkness in between the two outer lights. The object appeared to just glide in the sky and a slow but steady pace. With this type of pace and altitude, a jet would have not been able to maintain lift, and with the speed and altitude a propeller driven aircraft would have been very easy to identify.
As the craft passed into the blind spot above my car, I looked for the nearest road to turn around in. I had to take my eyes off it for about 10 seconds, I was hoping that when I turned around and came back I could see it off my left. When I picked it back up again, I was behind the craft. At this point I could make out the bright lights. I drove back north hoping to park in a wide open field off to my left and watch this craft. It had changed direction while I turned around and was moving away. The directional change appeared to happen without any banking at all from the craft. It was close to a 90 degree directional change. I was watching it move away but the lights had all culminated to appear as one, with the red light visible underneath. I turned left and parked at the entrance to a school “Melmark of New England.” Here I had a great view of most of the horizon with trees off to my right. At this time I noticed 2 other airplanes in the area off in the horizon. They were not anywhere close to the craft I was watching. These other two planes I could make out the Red/Green wing light tips instantly and they were moving much quicker along the horizon.
The sighting ended when the light of the craft in the distance seemed to stop becoming smaller, and got brighter and bigger, then moved to the right heading eastward off in the distance. With my experience with aircraft, and my knowledge of aircraft and aviation, I cannot identify what this was. I have also never seen an aircraft that had lights in a perfect triangular pattern with a Red light just as bright directly in the center. I would love to know what this craft is! Its a UFO until further notice, I am hoping that other people had witnessed this, but as it was night time, most people dismiss lights in the sky as “a plane” As the sighting escalated, I felt almost euphoric, and in disbelief, I couldnt understand what I was looking at! I still dont know. To generalize this craft, it was low, it was slow, it was big, made no noise, none of the typical navigation lights required by FAA law.

Brown Acts on Driver’s License, Deportation Bills

Gov. Jerry Brown signed a new law that will allow hundreds of thousands of young illegal immigrants to obtain driver’s licenses and vetoed another that would have restricted sheriffs from helping federal authorities detain undocumented Californians for potential deportation.

His actions, announced Sunday as the deadline neared to finish work on nearly 1,000 bills sent to him by the Legislature this year, followed an intense week of protests, prayer vigils and lobbying by immigrant advocacy groups.

The governor also revived a tax break for Hollywood, allowed juvenile killers serving life in prison a chance for release and outlawed treatment intended to turn gay children straight.

The driver’s license measure will make illegal immigrants eligible to drive legally in California if they qualify for a new federal work permit program. That Obama administration protocol allows illegal immigrants who came to the United States before they were 16, and who are now 30 or younger and meet certain other criteria, to obtain work permits.

The other closely watched immigration bill was known as the Trust Act. It would have prohibited local law enforcement officers from cooperating with federal authorities to detain suspected illegal immigrants, unless they are charged with a serious or violent felony.

Some in law enforcement campaigned hard against the measure, AB 1081 by Assemblyman Tom Ammiano (D-San Francisco). Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca said it conflicted with federal law and vowed to defy it.

The act is aimed at Secure Communities, a federal program that creates a pipeline from local jails to deportation.

Brown wrote in his veto message that he supported the intent of the Trust Act but it was “fatally flawed,” as it would have protected illegal immigrants involved in such crimes as child abuse, drug trafficking and selling weapons. “I believe it’s unwise to interfere with a sheriff’s discretion to comply with a detainer issued for people with these kinds of troubling criminal records,” he said.

Proponents of the act noted that fewer than a third of the roughly 80,000 people deported from California since the state joined the program in 2009 were convicted of serious felonies. Most of the rest committed misdemeanors, while others were guilty only of previous immigration violations.

American Schools Still Heavily Segregated by Race, Income: Civil Rights Project Report

Minorities account for nearly half of the student population in America, and will likely become the majority within the next decade or two, but recent studies show that students across the country are still largely learning in segregated environments—along both racial and economic lines.

According to a new analysis of data from the U.S. Department of Educationan overwhelming majority of Latino and black students study in racially isolated classrooms: 80 percent of Latino students and 74 percent of black students are in schools where the majority of students are not white. More specifically, 43 percent of Latinos and 38 percent of black attend “intensely segregated schools” where white students comprise 10 percent or less of the student body.

The report, released Wednesday by the Civil Rights Project at the University of California, Los Angeles, also found that the average black or Latino student now goes to schools where low-income students account for nearly double the proportion of poor students than the average white or Asian student. It also targets charter schools, which studies have shown to fall short of equal education promises, nearly six decades after Brown v. Board.

“These trends threaten the nation’s success as a multiracial society,” Civil Rights Project Co-Director Gary Orfield said in a statement Thursday. “We are disappointed to have heard nothing in the campaign about this issue from neither President Obama, who is the product of excellent integrated schools and colleges, nor from Governor Romney, whose father gave up his job in the Nixon Cabinet because of his fight for fair housing, which directly impacts school make-up.”

Increasing prevalence of school segregation is most dramatic in the south for black students. More northern states like New York, Illinois and Michigan tend to have the most segregated schools for black students while Washington, Nebraska and Kansas are most integrated. For Latino students, California, New York and Texas have the most segregated environments.

White students, on the other hand, tend to attend schools where about 75 percent of their peers are white.

To reverse the trend of what researchers call resegregation, the report offers suggestions like implementing laws that encourage integration and reauthorizing regulations that support integration.

Thursday’s findings come at a time when the achievement gap between minority and white students continues to widen. A January report notes that minority high schoolers are performing at academic levels equal to or below those of three decades ago, attributable to differences in performance expectations, growing income inequality and diminishing resources as well as inadequate access to experience teachers.

Bill Protects Religious Garb, Grooming in the Workplace

California employers face new restrictions against shunting Sikh and Muslim workers out of public view for wearing turbans, beards and hijabs, under a bill signed Saturday by Gov. Jerry Brown.

The measure could affect workplaces from Disneyland to San Quentin Prison.

“This bill, AB 1964, makes it very clear that wearing any type of religious clothing or hairstyle, particularly such as Sikhs do … is protected by law and nobody can discriminate against you because of that,” Brown told some 400 Sikhs and supporters at a rally of the North American Punjabi Assn. on the steps of the Capitol. Brown also signed SB 1540, which requires the state Board of Education to consider a new history framework for schools that the governor said will include “the role and contributions of the Sikh community in California.”

A series of court cases have muddied the water on what employers must do to accommodate the religious practices of workers, said Rajdeep Singh, director of law and policy for the Sikh Coalition, a national civil rights group based in New York City. The new law will clarify the requirements.

“It’s needed because Sikhs and other religious minorities continue to experience job discrimination on account of their religion,” Singh said.

The new law restricts employers from segregating a worker from customers or the public as a means of accommodating his or her religious beliefs. It says employers must accommodate a worker’s religious practices unless doing so creates “significant difficulty or expense.”

Supporters say AB 1964, named after the federal Civil Rights Act of 1964, could help in cases like that of a Muslim woman who sued Disneyland last month, alleging that she was fired from a hostess position after refusing to remove her head scarf at work.

Disneyland officials said they offered to provide her with a company-approved scarf for work.

Singh hopes the measure, which takes effect Jan. 1, will also pressure law-enforcement agencies and the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation to reconsider their workplace practices, which include a general ban on beards for prison guards. Some law enforcement agencies bar officers from wearing turbans, Singh said.

Arguments that beards and turbans conflict with efforts to create uniformity and discipline in law-enforcement ranks are “tenuous,” Singh said.

Stabbing suspect arrested after standoff in Queen Creek

Sheriff’s deputies tried coaxing Mark Matheny, 29, out of a home in Queen Creek Tuesday afternoon.

Matheny is accused of stabbing his wife with a 6-inch knife and beating her with brass knuckles.

The violent crime happened last Thursday.

While Matheny’s wife is recovering at a local hospital, sheriff’s deputies from Maricopa and Pinal counties were called out to a home on Agrarian Hills Drive.

“It looked like two SWAT teams came,” said concerned neighbor Diana Regazzi. “There were quite a few men out here with big powerful guns.”

Regazzi’s neighborhood was on lockdown for hours, including a school within walking distance of the home.

A man outside of the house told 3TV off-camera that he owned the home and Matheny is his friend.

The homeowner told 3TV he was unaware Matheny was wanted for attempted murder.

Neighbors described a chaotic scene unfolding in front of their eyes.

“Many times during the day, a plain-clothed sheriff kept going into the backyard and kept saying, ‘Come on out. Come on down. Let’s work this out. Let me try to help you,’” Regazzi said.

During the standoff Matheny posted a message on his Facebook page. The note said, “I’m sorry I had to do this over a girl but goodbye cruel world. I tried reaching out for someone’s help.”

Thirty-five friends responded to the posting, many of them begging for Matheny to call them.

Deputies said Matheny tried hanging himself with a telephone cord.

Brandon Jones with the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office said Matheny was taken to a local hospital, alive and talking.

Jones also said Matheny is a self-proclaimed white supremacist.

“He has done prison and jail time mainly in California,” Jones said.

Regazzi was hoping no one would get hurt.

“I did say a prayer that everyone is safe, even the man in distress,” Regazzi said.

MCSO is trying to get a search warrant to comb through the home for evidence.
