Discontent increasing for France’s illegal aliens

Without proper documentation they can’t participate fully in French society, but often they have nowhere else to go.

Their stories contain one common link – the hope that citizenship will secure the achievements and personal connections which they have worked for years to construct.

This student is in the final year of her Master’s program. She only needs an internship to complete her degree, but she can’t find an internship because she is an illegal alien.

This Moroccan man is an illegal alien who doesn’t have the right to work. But he has lived in France for 8 years, has a daughter enrolled in school and a wife with proper immigration papers.

France’s worst treatment is reserved for undocumented Roma, as the Hollande administration has not stopped the Sarkozy era’s practice of deportations and destroying their homes.

France’s immigrants are tired of being told by supposedly supportive politicians that the time just isn’t right to push for better treatment. But if this segment of society has lost faith in the new Socialist government, polls show that, in this respect, they are typically French.

No legal papers: Nabbed illegals getting into a truck during an OPS Sapu 6P raid in Petaling Street.

“Most of the illegal foreigners caught during the raid were either operating businesses or working illegally.

“They will be brought to our headquarters in Putrajaya,” he said yesterday.

However, Abdul Malik added, their employers managed to escape.

Putrajaya Immigration deputy assistant director Mohd Izzat Mohd Jamil, who was also present, said that there has been an increase in the number of illegals caught after the implementation of the Comprehensive Legalisation Programme for Illegal Immigrants, although an amnesty period was given for registration.

30 illegals held in raid on shops

The workers, aged between 22 and 49, were peeling onions, garlic and potatoes to be repackaged and sold to retailers operating grocery outlets in the vicinity when the 12-man enforcement team arrived and nabbed them.

Johor Immigration Department deputy director Khairulanuar Abu Bakar, who is also the commander of the 4.30pm operation, said there were no untoward incidents as the foreigners were caught off-guard.

“After checking their travel documents, we found 10 Indonesians (five women and five men), four Myanmar nationals (three women and a man) and 18 Vietnamese nationals (one man and 17 women) had violated multiple regulations under the Immigration Act, including illegal entry, overstaying and violating their social visit passes.”

He said the detainees claimed their employer had taken their travel documents to facilitate application for working permits.

Their employer, a 35-year-old local, was also detained.

He claimed to have paid an agency between RM500 and RM1,000 for each worker to facilitate their permit applications.

The foreigners are held at the Pekan Nenas Detention Centre, pending further action.
